Why plumbing and HVAC contractors are a Coterie focus
Plumbing, Heating, and Air-Conditioning Contractors ranks #3 on Coterie’s Top 100 classes list (December 2025). That makes this class one of the core types of business Coterie is built to quote.
Common risks
For this class, the usual claims include water damage to a customer’s home, a slip over tools in a hallway, and property damage that shows up after a job is done. Homeowners and GCs often want proof of liability coverage before you start, and certificates matter for winning bids.
General liability and BOP
General liability covers claims of bodily injury and property damage caused by your business, and for most classes it also covers personal and advertising injury. Coterie offers per-occurrence limits from $300K up to $2M, with aggregates at twice that, plus medical payments and damage to rented premises.
A BOP can protect office property and equipment, and contractor tool coverage can be added with higher limits. A business owner’s policy combines GL with property and business income coverage in one policy, which is often the simpler choice for owners who lease or own a space.
What to know before you quote
Contractors: eligibility runs to $5M in revenue and 15 employees, and the appetite excludes general contractors, paper contractors, firms whose subcontractor costs top half of revenue, equipment rental to others and exterior work above three stories. Plumbers can’t do new building or home construction, work more than 6 feet underground or medical gas lines. Coterie accepts businesses with up to $10M in revenue and 50 employees, one location per policy, limited loss history and no prior cancellations. Home-based and newer businesses are welcome.
