Why full-service restaurants are a Coterie focus
Full Service Restaurants ranks #1 on Coterie’s Top 100 classes list (December 2025). That makes this class one of the core types of business Coterie is built to quote.
Common risks
For this class, the usual claims include slips on freshly mopped floors, hot plates and spilled drinks at the table, burns, and allergen or foodborne illness complaints. Guests sit, eat and move around your dining room for an hour or more, so injury claims are the everyday exposure.
General liability and BOP
General liability covers claims of bodily injury and property damage caused by your business, and for most classes it also covers personal and advertising injury. Coterie offers per-occurrence limits from $300K up to $2M, with aggregates at twice that, plus medical payments and damage to rented premises.
A BOP adds your kitchen equipment, furniture and inventory plus business income, and the restaurant endorsement can respond to spoilage and food contamination. A business owner’s policy combines GL with property and business income coverage in one policy, which is often the simpler choice for owners who lease or own a space.
What to know before you quote
Coterie’s appetite excludes bars, taverns and nightclubs, dance floors, DJs or live entertainment, door staff, BYOB service, hookah bars and places where liquor tops 50% of sales. Hired and non-owned auto isn’t available if staff deliver in their own cars. Coterie accepts businesses with up to $10M in revenue and 50 employees, one location per policy, limited loss history and no prior cancellations. Home-based and newer businesses are welcome.
Why owners like it
Quotes come back in minutes, certificates can be issued on demand, and there’s an actual person on the other end of the phone. It also comes with Manage My Risk, Coterie’s free set of risk assessments, safety guides and compliance checklists.
All coverage is subject to underwriting and availability.
